Fun to Dress Up

Well as a great Thanksgiving holiday just ended I realized that I hadn't kept up with my blog since school started or even put the pictures of the kids in their Halloween costumes this year. So....even though it is late in coming I will share our Halloween fun this year.

The weekend began on Saturday the 30th with a fun couples party with 12 friends from church. We had a soup potluck which was very tasty for the cool evening and then we headed out to the baseball fields for some fun games of laser tag in the dark. After several games of playing (and believing we were young enough to run and play for hours......and some were) we headed back to the house for some dessert and games until everyone left. It was a great time! I had the house decorated with spiders and Halloween decor but I only took a picture of a few things.

The next day was Halloween and the boys had baseball games after church and then could not wait to dress up and go to the Fall Fun Festival at church. When the boys asked what they could be for Halloween I told them we would go look to see what we could find at the store. I couldn't believe that the price for anything decent was so much so I told them that they could be anything that we could come up with around the house or anything they could find for $10 or less. So, as you can imagine, they were not able to find much at the store but they were able to make it happen and had a great time coming up with what they wanted.

Eli ended up wanting to be Anakin Skywalker and we already had that costume in our toy box so we got it out and cleaned it up, added a scar to his eye, got him a lightsaber which we have many of, and he looked great as Anakin........cost $0.

CJ wanted to be a Ninja so we thought about ways to make a costume but then we found a great costume at Target for $7 and added a couple of "ninja swords" to it from the dollar store. It was perfect and he had a lot of fun playing the part of a ninja all evening.....cost $9.

Davis decided he wanted to be something from Mario. He thought it would be fun to be the character Toad. So he put on Trent's denim overalls and we made a "mushroom hat" that was white with red circles on it. With some help from Papa, we used styrofoam from their garage and glued it in layers. I cut out an area for his head and then rounded the corners and edges of the hat. Then we painted red circles on the outside of it and we had a Toad costume. Davis actually won the costume contest at the Fall Fun Festival with this creation............cost $0.75 for the bottle of paint.

So you can see that we had a great time creating costumes for the kids on a budget......I knew we could do it :) The kids had a blast, played lots of games, and ate lots of candy!!
